A Contagious Disease Warning (S.A.M.E code: DEW) is an unimplemented alert that would be issued whenever an outbreak of a contagious pathogen (virus) occurs. However, while its S.A.M.E code exists, no agencies currently list it as being in use. As a result, no warnings of this type have ever been issued. When the COVID-19 outbreak began in the U.S. and Canada, no DEWs were issued. However, there were some alerts issued to tell the public to stay home.
If one were to be issued under another alert, it would be issued by the C.D.C (Centers for Disease Control), but relayed by the National Weather Service.
Follow any instructions the alert provides. Try to avoid public areas. If you or someone you know is experiencing the symptoms, get them to a hospital immediately.
